Public communication is shaped by images and graphics. It’s good to have a clear understanding of the legal framework.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Christina Blanken for the practical training, which placed a special focus on the perspective of the public sector. A particularly insightful moment was the realization that the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) does not apply to the press—and the specific implications this can have, for example, on publications in a municipality’s official gazette.

Equally fascinating were the shared experiences regarding the handling of historical photos, such as those from city archives. It became clear that attributions like “Photo: @City” generally do not constitute a legally sound solution—even when the photos were taken by city administration employees.

The reference to “framing” as a creative and legal tool was also helpful. The concept of “purpose transfer doctrine” also seemed to spark new interest and was well-received by many participants.

The online seminar offered a successful blend of foundational knowledge and specialized content. The frequently expressed desire for a follow-up underscores the relevance and quality of the event.
